Head's message
After spending Thursday at the West Midlands English Hub hearing key messages again about the importance of reading, including reading for pleasure, I am excited that our library will be ready for the children to start borrowing books after half term. In preparation for this, today your child will come home with an important letter. Please read this letter, complete the consent slip and return to school by half term. Some key statistics that were shared by the English Hub include;
- 85% of the national curriculum requires a child to be able to read
- by age 6 there is a strong link between reading and academic success when children are older
- Reading for pleasure is more important for children’s cognitive development than their parents’ level of education and is a more powerful factor in life achievement than socio-economic background
Reading with your child and to your child is very important, please make some time each week to prioritise this. It is also really good for your child to see you reading too, when was the last time you curled up with a good book?
OPAL
As part of our
OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) commitment to provide all the children with range of play opportunities at lunch times, if children have wellies in school they are able to use the field even when it is wet and muddy. This is having a positive effect on their happiness, friendships and behaviour both at lunchtimes and in class. However, the children are getting very muddy as they play and we don't want this to create lots of extra washing at home! Therefore, we are inviting children to bring spare clothes - such as waterproof trousers or spare jogging bottoms into school - that can be put on OVER their uniform before engaging in muddy play. As always please NAME any spare clothing and send into school in a bag that can be hung on your child's peg.
Road Safety
Please take care when crossing Telford Avenue on all days of the week. Sadly, there was an incident at the weekend where a child was hit by a car and received a leg injury. Lots of measures to slow drivers down are in place but caution and
road safety are still vitally important.
PTA fundraising - recipe book
Please read the letter that has been emailed to you regarding the exciting new Telford Infant School cook book. This is an amazing opportunity to be part of something that you can treasure forever and raise much needed funds for the school. I am looking forward to seeing some delicious entries.
Have a lovely weekend, and don't forget to read a book!
