Friday 29th November weekly update

29th November 2024

Head's message

What a fantastic turn out we are having for Grandparents Glitter day.  It is lovely to go around the classes and see how much the grandparents and children are enjoying creating things together.  The grandparents are also getting a sneak preview of Christmas songs sung by the children. This is always one of my favourite days of the Autumn term.

School meals - important update
From Monday ALL children will have a choice of 3 hot meal options.

red lunch (meat or fish)   OR  green lunch (vegetarian)  OR jacket potato (with cheese, beans or tuna - or a combination of toppings)

This is to help ensure that your child eats a hot meal every day, even on days where the choice of red or green does not suit them.  Dietary requirements and allergies will still be catered for in the same way.  If you are concerned that your child may choose jacket potato every day and you do not want them to, please just speak to your child's class teacher about what day(s) they can have a jacket and they will make a note of this.

Lock down practice
The children (and adults) did very well in our lock down practice that happened on Monday this week.  They listened really carefully to the adults and stayed quiet and calm. Well done!

Poppy appeal
We raised £228.23 selling poppies - thank you so much.  This has all gone to the Salvation Army to support their amazing work.

Leamington Night Shelter - items we want to collect!
As I outlined in a previous update, rather than sending Christmas cards from the children to their class mates, we support the Leamington Night Shelter.  From Monday we invite you to donate the following new unused items which can be dropped at the main school office or your child's classroom.
  •        Men’s boxer shorts
  •        Men’s deodorant
  •        Shower gel (any)
  •        Shampoo (any)
Together for Autism Conference
Warwickshire is very proactive in supporting parents and young people with autism.  They are running a number of conferences and one is very local to us at North Leamington School on Saturday 7th December.  This is a great opportunity to find out more about autism.  Free tickets can be booked online here.

Warwickshire Admissions
Admissions are making some changes to their 26/27 admissions process and are required to consult with schools and parents.  Please read the proposals here and respond if you would like to do this.

Does your child play Roblox?
Roblox have increased their safety measures for children.  Please read here to ensure you have these in place if your child plays this game.  Please remember your child should never be left unattended when playing games that use internet access. We have taught the children to speak to a trusted adult about anything they see or hear on the internet that gives them their 'early warning signs'.  Online safety measures help with unwanted content but are not a substitute for parental supervision.

Winter HAF codes
If your child is in receipt of pupil premium, winter activities are now available to book here.  You can check to see if you are eligible for pupil premium here and the office are always happy to support parents with applications if needed.

Thursday 5th Dec - reception theatre trip - please pay online if you have not done so. Whilst this is a voluntary contribution, school budgets really struggle to subsidise trips so we appreciate your support.  We are currently missing a high number of payments which unfortunately puts future trips at risk.

It is only a week until our amazing Winter Wonderland.  The PTA are busy selling raffle tickets, Santa slots and tokens ahead of the event.  Catch them outside the main entrance to the school office before and after school most days.

Christmas performances
Please remember that whilst you do not need a ticket for this event, there is only room for 2 adults to attend per child.  We respectfully ask that younger siblings (including babies) are not brought to the performances (this includes church) as they can be very distracting for the children who have rehearsed so hard for their big moment.
Apologies that a letter sent by the reception teams says 3 adults - this is incorrect.

Reception and Year 1 performances in school start at 9.15am and will finish at approximately 10am.

Year 2 Carol's at Christmas starts at 10am at St Mary Magdalene's Church and we ask that parents meet us there - you can arrive from 9.45am and find a seat in the church - you will be directed to where you can sit.

As is the tradition we will be collecting for St Mary Magdalene's Church and school so any spare change is much appreciated. The school donations go directly to each class to help class teachers buy resources for the children.  The church use the donations to provide services to the local community.

Have a great weekend, is it time to get those decorations up yet?
